Photographer Three - Dennis Rouvre

The way in which Rouvre chooses to portray unusual portraiture is through the strange facial expressions of his models. He does this either by choosing an expression that suits the appearance of the model for example an aggressive face for a largely built man etc or a facial expression that opposes the appearance of the model.  This works really well as it is an individual way to work and created very natural yet unnatural photographs that capture the many emotions of his models. His work also uses cultural difference to produce interesting photographs.

This photograph is interesting because the face that the model is unclothed and against a white background gives the photograph a very natural and unplanned feel to it. The natural lighting and central composition also goes with this. The facial expression however is far from neutral and gives the model a very aggressive and unnerving appearance which goes with the fact that he appear to have a black eye.

Once again the photographer has chosen to use a really natural setting with a plain lighting, central composition, plain background and cloth less model however contrasts this with a very unnatural and uncertain facial expression from the model. This is especially interesting because from looking at the model you would expect quite a manly character however the facial expression contrasts with this and makes the audience question their initial judgement.

Throughout this photographs work he appears to use race and culture in different ways. From the above photographs its clear that he has used a white background for the white models and black for the black models. This suggests to the audience that the photographer has attempted to stop the models from standing out against the background and gives his work deeper meaning with regards to race and culture ideals and opinion. The photographer has used spotlight lighting and has given the model a natural yet aggressive appearance.

In this photograph the photograph has once again photographed the racially different model agains the black background however he stands out more agains the black background. I think that this photograph differs from his other work as the model looks more friendly than aggressive.

This photographers work will most definitely influence my work especially with regards to facial expression and composition as this photographers work is very interesting and unusual.
Overall I really like this photographers work I think it has a lot of different and powerful meanings as well as being very unique, interesting and deep with the cultural and race creating controversial work.
