Photographer Four - Jonathan Robert-Willis

I have chosen this photographer as he has a very interesting and clever way of creating unusual portraiture photography. As with standard portraiture photography Willis uses the shoulders up and plain background however he uses a strong fan in order to disfigure the face of his models. I think this works really well and is interesting because they are quite unattractive and show great detail in the face of the model where as in ordinary portraiture people are arranged in an attractive and flattering way.

This is a clever photograph for two reasons. Firstly it is entertaining and interesting for the audience while showing immense detail in the face not often captured in portraiture photography. And because it has a very comical feel to it. The photograph has chosen just to get the face of the model in this photo and uses quite natural lighting.

This photograph uses the standard shoulders up close up shot against a plain black background and natural lighting. This is then contrasted with the use of the air blown on the face of the model creating a humorous face. I think this is an interesting form of photography as it is very different to any that I have found.

This photo is very close up of the model and shows immense detail with even the lines and hairs on the models face being visible. Once again the photo has a very unnatural and comedic feel to it waking this a very visually pleasing photograph.

This is my favourite of Willis's work as I feel it is the funniest and the most entertaining. I think the facial expression of the model is especially interesting and the composition and lighting makes this a very effective and interesting unusual portrait.

This photographer will influence my work with the use of the comedic feel to his work. I may consider attempting disfiguring my models to create interesting photographs that contrast with the usual portraiture image. I will definitely use a black background in my work as this has worked really well for this photographer.

Overall this photographers work relies heavily on the comedic feel and used the exaggerated and forced facial expressions. He also uses a very focused lens showing even the most intricate details in the models face.
