Photographer Two - Andy Alcala

Andy Alcala works entirely with a black background with the same model. Each photo is very different because the photographer uses different face paints to create an image central to the photograph. The facial expression of the model is completely blank and expressionless allowing the photographer to use the face of the model as a blank canvas for his work. This is interesting because it makes the audience question the photographer or artists choice to use the human body as a canvas instead of an actual canvas. My main reason for choosing this photographer is due to the hidden meaning which I read from his work that suggests anyone can be anything they want to be.
In this photograph the make up is a simple white covering giving the photographer/artist the opportunity to create his work on the model. In this photograph the model has been covered with brightly coloured spots. This creates a really interesting photograph because it doesn't seem to have any meaning or purpose but still is an interesting and slightly positive photograph. This has a sort of clown like appearance and could be looked at to represent the multicultural world in which we live in an exaggerated and comical way.

Once again this photograph uses a white face paint as the base colour and places the model centrally. The colours over the top are once again bright which give the photo a positive feel which contrasts with the dull lighting and plain background allowing him to really stand out. This photo could once again be representing the cultural diversity with regards to race, gender, sexuality etc.

In this photograph the photographer has still placed the model centrally against a dark background but this time has not used the white background as the base, instead the whole of the face is a scene once again ending at the neck. This is interesting as instead of placing the model within a scene and then take the photographers the photograph has placed the scene inside the model for his photographs.

This photograph is the same as above in the way that the head has been used as a canvas for a scenic drawing instead of placing him in the setting. This interesting because where as in what would be seen as a normal photograph the detail is in the face of the model instead of in the location in which it is set.

This photographer will definitely fit in and influence my work because his work is so unique, interesting and different from other photographers work. I would really like to look at the copying his work in my own way as this works really well. I will especially take influence from the dull lighting and black background. I will also attempt to use paint in my photography even if it is not in the exact way that this photographer has.

Overall I really like this photographers unique style of portrait photography with hidden meanings of cultural diversity etc.
